THE LOSS OF OUR OWN
By Becky Landers

For those of you who haven’t heard, on Thursday, January 30th, 2003, an aggressive cancer took the life of a wonderful friend, daughter, mother, wife and court reporter – Glenna Williams. We will all truly miss her fun, energetic, upfront, never-a-dull-moment presence.

Glenna is the daughter of Barbara Schultz, someone who has been in the center of many of our hectic and rushed lives as an excellent, reliable proofreader. Glenna went to court reporting school in the early years while Barbara was typing (on carbon paper sets!)

Glenna was the first student to start and finish at Alvin Jr. College (one of those whiz kids) and began reporting with Kay Schwartz. She then went to Art Richardson’s firm, which later became United Reporting. For the last few years, Glenna has worked for Bayou City Reporting.

Glenna was an excellent dancer in her youth (something she inherited from Barbara) and was a tireless mom who enjoyed the dancing activities of Kelly, her now 22-year-old daughter; cheerleading activities of Melissa, her 16-year-old daughter; and Melissa’s twin brother, Kevin, a football player. Glenna’s husband, Mike, a policeman in the Shenandoah Police Department, will have his hands full keeping up with all the activities.

For those of you who might wish to donate to Glenna’s family to help with medical bills and/or funds for her children, we have set up an account. Please make any checks payable to: GLENNA WILLIAMS BENEFIT FUND Account #5901219 and mail to: Sue Baker, 8634 Merlin Drive, Houston, TX 77055. If you have any questions, please call 713-461-5239.

Please wrap Glenna and her family in your love and prayers. She will be missed, but not forgotten, for she’ll be in our hearts forever.

JACQUELYN PATTEN MILES
By LaVearn Ivey

Jacquelyn was born March 3, 1946, in Houston, Texas. She was educated at Jack Yates Senior High School and McMahan College of Court Reporting. She graduated from McMahan in 1972 and went to Florida to report for several years. She returned to Houston and worked as a freelance reporter and official reporter for many years.

She was a volunteer at Riverside General Hospital for twenty years, in addition to being a Compliance Officer, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor and Preventive Management of Aggressive Behavior Instructor at that hospital. She attended the New York University School of Film, Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, was a member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, and the National Court Reporters Association.

She was affectionately called Jack, Jacquie, and Aunt Ty. She was a proud mother of three and grandmother of two. She was full of spirit and love and enjoyed good times with her family and friends. She believed in living life to the fullest. She was such a free spirit, an impulsive person. If you look up the definition of joie de vivre in the dictionary, you will see Jacquie Miles.

On February 24, 2003, in true Ms. Miles form: she did the unexpected again; she quickly left this earth. She is missed by so many.
