COURT REPORTING DEFINITIONS:

Explanation of Ethic points - www.tcra-online.com

Court Reporters Definition of Firm - www.tcra-online.com
A firm shall be defined as any person or entity that employs Certified Shorthand Reporters and/or engages independent contractors to provide court or shorthand reporting services. A firm shall be required to register any affiliate office under a separate registration number and pay a registration renewal fee.

Example: You’re an independent reporter who has one or two clients and you can’t take a job for a particular day. You call on another reporter to cover the job for you under your name and you pay them. That makes you a firm.
