Welcome! What's Hot in Houston
Adopt-A-Student
The Houston Court Reporters Association is encouraging its members to "adopt" a student this year. By that, we are hoping to provide mentors for the students who would like to have a reporter they can talk to and ask questions of as you are preparing to become a court reporter. Also, we are having a joint reporter/student seminar this year on September 15 in Houston and are asking these reporters to cover your expenses to attend the seminar.
In order to understand why you would like to participate in this program and what you wish to gain from the experience, we are asking you to submit a short essay to us letting us know this information. You can send it to HCRA via e-mail at hcranewsletter@gmail.com or through US mail at PO Box 2205, Houston, TX 77252. We ask that all submissions be made by July 1 so that we can process them and find a reporter for you.
Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you all!
Habitat for Humanity Project
Please join HCRA as we participate in the Houston Bar Association’s Habitat for Humanity Project. Each spring, HCRA supports the HBA in their project to help a family build their American dream of home ownership. Members of the HBA, alongside the family, come out on different weekends during the spring to help build from the ground up a new home. Each family that is selected for the Habitat for Humanity home is required to put in a minimum number of hours of “sweat equity” into their new home. HCRA, along with local court reporting firms, provide breakfast and lunch for everyone as we, too, provide a little sweat equity alongside our brethren in justice. Don’t think that just because you might pick up a hammer or a tape measure that it’s all work and no fun. Last year’s HCRA volunteers had a lot of fun as we worked together to put windows onto the frame of the house. We are looking forward to this year’s project as the HBA is well on the way to having completed building nearly a 1 ½ dozen homes in the Houston area since they began working with Habitat for Humanity several years ago.
Check back in the near future for upcoming dates when you, too, can volunteer for this worthy and fun project.
